BenchMark™ columns are designed to suit the majority of standard laboratory chromatography applications. They are ideal for aqueous systems and compatible with solvents used in common liquid chromatography applications such as protein purification.

A complete solution When you buy a complete BenchMark™ column, you'll receive everything you need to get started. The main column assembly comprises a glass tube of the chosen dimensions and two endpieces, pre-assembled with 25?m PE frits. The endpieces are specified when you order. You can choose from the standard configuration of one fixed plus one adjustable endpiece (-AF) or for greater flexibility over bed length, two adjustable endpieces might be more appropriate (-AA). If you don't require any adjustability in your column, two fixed endpieces (-FF) are also available. Adjustable endpieces (also known as plungers, pistons or flow adaptors) provide 80mm of height adjustment. The adjusting mechanism enables the endpiece to be set in position within the glass tube to give a variety of bed lengths. Once in place, fine adjustment can be made to position the endpiece so that the frit is sitting on top of the packed bed, enabling delivery of solvents and sample direct to the bed surface without dilution in any void volume. To complete the set-up, a fittings kit is included to enable connection of the column in-line to an automated platform such as ÄKTA™, or to a peristaltic pump upstream and a detector / fraction collector downstream. The fittings kit comprises:

• 2m x 1/16” OD PTFE tubing with 1/4-28 UNF fitting (PP) at one end
• 0.5m x 1/16” OD PTFE tubing with 1/4-28 UNF fitting (PP) at one end

Kinesis offers a wide range of fittings, connectors and tubing (both semi-rigid such as PTFE and softwall, such as Tygon®), so that you can connect your BenchMark™ column into any fluidic system required. For those applications requiring a different porosity bed support or a more inert flow path, an accessory Frit Kit is also provided with each BenchMark™ column. In addition to the 25?m PE frits already assembled into the endpieces supplied, the Frit Kit offers these additional options:

• 2 x 30?m PTFE frits
• 2 x 10?m PTFE frits
• 2 x 10?m PE frits

Simple, flexible, effective Replacement parts and a wide range of accessory products makes BenchMark one of the most flexible products on the market. Modular design means you can interchange endpieces from the SolventPlus™ and HiT™ ranges onto the glass tube from a BenchMark™ column, to further broaden its use. If you accidentally break or damage a glass column, a replacement tube is available to suit the undamaged endpieces you already have.
