Connecting soft-wall peristaltic tubing to any fluidics system or application has always been a challenge. This is especially true when peristaltic pumps are used for precision and micro fluidic applications. For example, small inner diameters for Tygon and other softwall tuing used to pump very low flow rates require specialised barbed adapters and connectors, whereas larger ID tubing for increased flow rates demands a more sturdy and secure connection. We provide a variety of solutions for the most common and uncommon connection needs for soft-wall peristaltic tubing, which we want to introduce below.

Low-carryover connection for softwall to semi-rigid tubing

Microbarb from Dibafit™ provide a secure, low-carryover connection between flexible soft tubing with very small ID’s and semi-rigid tubing. Two components ensure that  both, the ID and OD of the soft wall tubing are firmly gripped, ensuring a secure connection.   The barbed component fits inside the narrow tube ID. The threaded outer connector slips over the tubing OD and secures the barb in place by tightening a standard ¼”-28 (UNF) flat bottom fitting, commonly found in a variety of low pressure, flat bottom fittings. Connect softwall tubing to threaded ports with semi-rigid tubing

Dibafit™ barbed adaptors are designed for use with soft-wall tubing. Machined from chemically resistant PEEK™ or acetal they have a superior barb with a crisp edge that retains soft wall tubing more securely than molded adaptors. A tight, leak-free connection can be ensured by matching the ID of your tubing to the barb size of the adaptor. If there is not an exact match, always choose the barb size that is just larger than your tubing ID.   

To connect softwall tubing into any female 1/4”-28 UNF port, use a male ¼”-28 UNF to barb adaptor. The male thread screws into the port and tubing can then be pushed over the barb. 

To connect softwall tubing to any male 1/4”-28 UNF thread, use a female 1/4”-28 UNF to barb adaptor. The barb is inserted into the softwall tubing and the female ¼ UNF port is available to receive any ¼”-28 UNF threaded fitting. Read more...
